In response to Marianne Vlaschits's exhibition "Matador Beach" at Ve.Sch, Vienna, STYX Projects presents the micro-show "Islands", featuring three works by Christophe Chemin, Michael Stokes and Daniel Turner.

Christophe Chemin (*1977, Bordeaux, France) is a self-taught artist whose versatile and multitudinous creative output defies categorization. Chemin draws, paints, writes, photographs, directs, films, sews, acts, dances, sings and designs. He published the first of four critically acclaimed novels at the age of 23 and is the creator of numerous films, amongst them the feature film "Seeking Me You Sat Exhausted" commisioned by Arsenal - Institut für Film und Videokunst e.V. for the festival "LIVE FILM! JACK SMITH! Five Flaming Days in a Rented World". His work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in Berlin, Paris and New York amongst them at "AA Bronson's School for Young Shamans" at John Connelly Presents, New York. Chemin currently lives and works in Berlin.


Michael Stokes (*1981, Staffordshire, UK) studied Fine Art at Oxford Brookes, Oxford where he was awarded a 1st class degree with HONS. In 2004 Stokes received the Alfred Toepfer Shakespear Student Prize by coreographer Matthew Bourne and an opportunity to further his studies in public art at Bauhaus University, Weimar. He completed his MA in Fine Art Painting at the Royal College of Art in London and received the Newby Trust Student Award in both 2004 & 2005. Stokes was artist in residence at Fulham Palace in London during the summer of 2005 before winning a travel award to complete an artist in residency at Poustinia Land Art Park in Belize, Central America. His work has been included in both solo and group exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford, Oxford; Studio Volatire, London; The Brunswick Gallery, London; 39 Gallery, London; The Royal College of Art, London; Portman Estate, London; STYX Projects, Berlin; and X-change, Oxford. Stokes is currently an Art Psychotherapist in Training in London at Roehampton University.


Daniel Turner (*1983, Portsmouth, VA, USA) received his BFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions including The Union Gallery, New York, NY; USSA Fine Arts, Brooklyn, NY; Envoy Enterprises, New York, NY; Gregory Lind Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Walter and McBean Gallery, San Francisco, CA; ORG Contemporary, Detroit MI; Hermitage Foundation Museum, Norfolk, VA; Jericho Ditch, Isle of Wight, VA; The Rawls Museum of Arts, Courtland, VA; Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA; Boulevard es Brezsnyev Gallery Budapest, Hungary and Preteen Gallery, Hermosillo Mexico. He is the recipient of several major grants from The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is a visiting scholar at New York University. Turner is the co-founder of the artist collective Cornrow Rider. He currently lives and works in New York.
