'The Importance of Alternative Venues'
SHUNT collective and SHUNT Lounge co-founder Mischa Twitchin talks about a special project that has revitalised the London art and design scene, that has recently come to an abrupt end. Under London Bridge station, under Victorian arches, the most experimental in theatre, dance, performance, art, fashion and design happened. Few seasons ago as one of London Fashion Week official venues it has witnessed collections by Gareth Pugh and Nathan Jenden, the space has housed a promenade performance 'Tropicana' and 'Amato Saltone' by the collective, seen Madonna filming one of her videos, Akhe leave their mark on the space and Franko B and Ron Athey's 'Visions of Excess'. As well as offering a platform for young visual artists and designers, Shunt Lounge was also a perfect place for testing ideas and an opportunity of collaboration.
