SPACES is a project for artistic and cultural action in public space in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine and is the starting point for this conference. By choosing the arena of public space, the artists participating in SPACES explore their role as initiators of civic and cultural emancipation in encounters with fellow residents in their cities. What is the transformative potential of art in public space in an Eastern Central European context? In Vienna, the SPACES curators, artists and activists will present and discuss their contributions toward understanding, defining and recreating public space.
