The artist follows up on the mentality of impressionists pleinair paintings, suggesting the serendipity and the absolute quality of an examination of one?s own medium. ?In Plain Air? displays three Series of Sebastian Riemer, all negotiating discourses on reproducibility, media history and fetishism in photography. In his inquiring artistic process Riemer is reflecting on societal implications of photography within it?s historical development and decontextualizing it?s elements.
Sebastian Riemer was a student of Tomas Ruff?s photography class at the art academy in Düsseldorf. He received many awards such as the Young Artist Award from the State of North-Rhine-Westphalia or the Setareh Future Master?s Art Award.
