Wednesday with?
Lucia Simon Medina (Artist in Residence) in conversation with Gerald Straub

February 28, 2018 I 6 pm
Hegelgasse 14, 1010 Vienna

studio das weisse haus cordially invites you to the second edition of "Wednesday with?". This monthly series is organized by our studio artists and/or international residencies, following the aim to foster artistic exchange and enable critical discourse.

Lucia Simon Medina – our current Artist in Residence in cooperation with Orbital Residency – will introduce the project "The name on the tip of the tongue", that she has been working on during her residency at studio das weisse haus. The presentation will be followed by an artist talk with Gerald Straub, artist, curator, theorist and cultural producer based in Vienna.

"The name on the tip of the tongue" highlights cryptography and numbers as basic aspects of contemporary life, remaining under the surface of the design. Through calculation and drawing, it analyses on one hand the first public key cryptographic system "RSA", which is based on two prime numbers close to each other and randomly chosen to multiply, and on the other hand the "Goldbach Conjecture", which proposed that any even number greater than two can be written as the sum of two prime numbers. "The name on the tip of the tongue" is also a spatial investigation into democratic structures, which makes reference to the first "list of prime numbers and factors" written by Anton Felkel in 1776 up to the number 144,000.

We are looking forward to welcoming you on February 28, 2018, 6 pm at Hegelgasse 14, 1010 Vienna. The presentation and artist talk will be in English, admission free!
