Snøhetta: People, Process, Projects: The Value of Architecture in Creating Community

The role of architecture is to create strong and sustainable identities for cities and their communities. Through well-conceived design we can help things run more fluidly, improve people?s well-being and make life more enjoyable. Every project is a unique expression of the ethos of its users, climate, and context. A built environment can be seen as a point of departure: it is where the architecture starts to communicate, the point from where it starts to interact with the public and its users.

Snøhetta began as a collaborative architectural and landscape workshop, and has remained true to its trans-disciplinary way of thinking since its inception. Today, Snøhetta has grown to become an internationally renowned practice of architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture and brand design. Comprised of two main studios, in Oslo, Norway and New York, USA, the firm currently has more than 180 employees from 30 different nations.

Jette Cathrin Hopp is a graduate architect and has been working with Snøhetta since 2005. She is part of the management group as the project director and head of acquisitions and new projects.

Jette has extensive experience in complex both Norwegian and international projects and led major international project developments and competitions. She has lectured in several architectural symposia, sharing Snøhetta´s philosophy and design ideas and she is also used in jury work in several architecture competitions.
