Holly Gramazio
Matheson Marcault / Now Play This, London

Play can be an extraordinay way to experience a city. It can make us see a place in new ways, get us finding corners we?d never otherwise have stumbled across, transform how we feel about public squares or even bus stops.
In this talk Holly will explore the potential of game design for city spaces, from forgotten games in history through to her own work and the work of other contemporary designers. From mass football games played by whole villages hundreds of years ago, to strange children?s games of the nineteenth century, to low-tech street games and pervasive games that get people running around their streets, to digitally facilitated real-world games – this is a look at what we get from playing in the public space, why we do it, and the techniques and strategies that game designers for city spaces have developed.

Kurzbiographie
Holly Gramazio is half of Matheson Marcault, a company that uses game design to engage people with places and ideas. She directs Now Play This, a games festival at Somerset House in London, and makes site-specific games – whether that involves 12,000 people running around Edinburgh (The New Year Games) or rules for simple physical games painted straight onto bridges, pavements and buildings (Games for Places).
