In the 19th and 20th century, interior spaces developed into places of intimacy and therefore into ?Private Utopias?. This publication discusses various aspects of interior spatial concepts, of their intellectual and artistic production from different points of view: aspects of culture, psychoanalysis, and architecture.
Sigmund Freud?s office in Vienna and the atelier of the artist Lucian Freud – being places that combined working, living and production – serve as paradigms; as does Marcel Proust?s work and living space, where he created his Recherche du Temps Perdu, Ludwig Wittgenstein?s house for his sister in Vienna, and finally the radical space concepts of Frederick Kiesler.
