Am 28. Februar und 1. März findet die Konferenz Freedom of Information under Pressure. Control - Crisis - Culture in Wien (Kuppelsaal der TU) statt.

Die Veranstaltung wird mehr als 30 internationale SprecherInnen (WissenschaftlerInnen, Medienfachleute, AktivistInnen und PolitikerInnen) aus Belgien, Bulgarien, Deutschland, Griechenland, Großbritannien, Italien, Österreich, Schweden und Spanien versammeln. Die Konferenz soll ein Forum fu?r die Analyse des Missbrauchs der digitalen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien im Lichte der jüngsten Enthüllungen von Überwachungsmaßnahmen und der Zunahme von Zensur und Verfolgungen gegenüber Medien, JournalistInnen und whistle-blowers in Europa und Übersee bieten. Die Folgen für Menschenrechte und Demokratie werden aufgezeigt. Politische, rechtliche und technische Lösungsansätze zur Erhaltung der Informationsfreiheit werden vorgebracht.
