2011 – THE NIGHTWATCH
Three Channel Video Installation, 5’00’’, with sound, 2011
“The Nightwatch” is about spaces and people in two cities, Istanbul and Vienna. The captures phenomenons of streets, gateways passages and windows during the night seen in a parallel editing in three channels. In this culturally different cities we also see anonymous people which are unaware of being shot in a planar angle of steady shots in a vouyoristic way. Although they remain anonymous, equal under the lens of the camera, a sense of individual lives and diversity emerges . The camera distilling the flow of everyday life, the movement of people in the city, reflecting on daily reality from an entirely anthropocentric perspective. The spaces that become stage-like backdrops in Nightwatch, they are the same spaces we move through every day, and we suddenly become aware of ourselves: “… so this is what it looks like when I walk through the streets.”
