SUBOTRON/WKW pro games: Games Don’t Sell Themselves: How to Get the Press and Players Talking About Your Game

Donnerstag, 17. Oktober 2013 - 19:00 Uhr

RaumD / Q21

Mike Rose
editor at Gamasutra and jack-of-all-trades at PocketGamer, ex-editor-in-chief at IndieGames.com

Some people say that simply developing a fantastic game is enough to get you noticed in the video game industry. Sure, there used to be some truth to that, but nowadays it’s so much harder to stand out from the crowd and get noticed, both by the games press and by gamers who are looking for something to play.
Mike Rose has watched the indie game scene evolve over the last several years, and has plenty of insight into what works and what doesn’t when it comes to getting your game noticed.
In this lecture, Rose will discuss in detail how you can go about greatly raising the chances of being picked up by the press, ranging from the big-picture details to the smaller yet still highly important tricks of the trade. Who should you be contacting? When is best to email out information? What do you include in your correspondence? What’s the best way to sell your game to somebody? Is going to trade and developer shows worthwhile? Every aspect of getting your game out there will be considered and challenged.
The talk will also explore building a fan base for your game and your studio. Getting “likes” on Facebook and followers on Twitter is so important now, but it can seem impossible to build up the numbers. There are some great ways to build up your social media presence, and these will be discussed at length.
