Creating queer spaces keeps pace with the challenges and tensions of the political, economic and social agenda. Creating queer space is about building a place, where equal rights are not a privilege but a foundation, where communication is linked to care, where your very existence is not questioned. The importance of such a space is assessed differently in different circles, and the opening of Queer Art Spaces Vienna 2023 drew people who cared (fair assumption). It was a full house: a big desire to be where you are, to embrace each other and to talk about something, nothing, anything or everything. The opening that started at 6 pm flowed into the streets and into the bar, the circulation of people and emotions was energizing. Even the artwork “Stolen Statues (Licked)” by Lotti Brockmann started to melt from this energy (just a little bit, no worries).
