As part of this year’s edition, the International Animation Filmfestival Tricky Women Tricky Realities is hosting the Artist Talk “Figur(ations) – Visual strategies and stagings of the body within animation” that brings together filmmakers whose work is presented in the current festival edition. Structured around the central theme of visual strategies in representations of the body within animation, this discussion format fosters dialogue between filmmakers and the audience.
The discussion addresses questions around the potential that animation holds for depicting and staging bodies beyond conventional forms of representation. How might animation challenge the male gaze embedded in so many portrayals of the body? And how do visual language and thematic exploration intertwine within this context? What role do joy, sensuality, and resistance play in the creative processes behind character design?
