Chronicles of Revival

The exhibition “Chronicles of Revival” provides insight into Asya Marakulina’s artistic practice, which serves as a means for her to explore the fundamental laws of human existence. She gives preference to mediums that are intuitive and meditative at the core, like ceramics and watercolor. Through the slow, concentrated processes, Marakulina creates narratives based on her current inner state and emotions.

The three series presented at the exhibition record the transitional stages that precede a new beginning, a revival. By giving a form to life phases that are often dismissed or intentionally omitted from personal and collective memory, the artist underscores the aesthetics and meaning of “unpleasant”. In a cultural landscape that privileges notions of success and spectacle, her works reframe periods of decline or discontinuance as integral to the human experience, inviting viewers to immerse in their essence through the prism of art.
