Double-primed canvases, marked by the traces and signs of the past, serve as the foundation for Christine Gironcoli’s work. Through subtle oil overpainting and the application of various materials—drawing on her expertise as a painting conservator—Gironcoli creates pieces that combine a historical aesthetic with a strikingly contemporary expressive power.
Christine Gironcoli (*1941 in Austria) graduated in 1961 from the painting class of Prof. Eduard Bäumer at the University of Applied Arts. She subsequently trained as a painting conservator, a profession she pursued until 1995, after which she fully dedicated herself to creating her own artworks. Christine Gironcoli’s work was first introduced to a wider audience in 2019 at the Kai Middendorff Gallery in Frankfurt am Main. Her first institutional solo exhibition is scheduled to take place in 2026.
