The exhibition We have done nothing because we have avoided nothing, opens November 9th (18-21h) at ENTRE (Burggasse 24/4, 1070 Vienna) and explores the subversive potential of ‘laziness’ and ‘wasting time’ as forms of dissent.
Curated by Daniela Fernández and inspired by the underground Cuban magazine Revista de la Vagancia en Cuba, the project is rooted in experiences of Cuban artists and their expressions of defiance against the government’s oppressive official political, social and cultural frameworks. Here, idleness, sluggishness or ‘laziness’ are not merely states of inaction; but paradoxical sources of creativity and productivity—a deliberate response to a system that demands total participation.
Alongside curated works by Lester Álvarez, Román Gutiérrez Aragoneses, Amed Aroche, Kevin Ávila, Carla Maria Bellido, Santiago M. Díaz, Simone García (cymoonv), Julio Llopiz-Casal, the exhibition opening features the launch of a special edition of Revista de la Vagancia en Cuba magazine in English and Spanish, offering a unique glimpse into vibrant and often marginalized aspects of Cuban avant-garde culture. A limited number of copies will be available for the public to take at the opening. Come early to grab yours.
This project is possible with support from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service & Sport (BMKÖS), Cultural funding from District 7 Neubau, Vienna Art Week, European Union and the Goethe-Institut
