Project Reception: *Positive Affirmation Underwear* by Rachelle Beaudoin
*Positive Affirmation Underwear* is an altered bra and panty set with custom electronics that plays per-recorded positive affirmations,challenging media conventions and standards while building the wearer’s confidence.
Beaudoin is currently a US Fulbright / quartier21 artist in resident who worked closely with Miss Baltazar’s Laboratory, a Vienna-based feminist hacker space, on the completion of the project.
Other video works completed by Beaudoin during the residency will also be on display.
Beaudoin investigates themes of feminism, interaction and social engagement
through art. She often uses humor and sarcasm as an entry point into issues
of gender, power and class. Her works are often personal and
introspective, have wearable elements and/or include performance. She
attended the College of the Holy Cross and holds a Master’s degree in
Digital+Media from Rhode Island School of Design. She has exhibited at
Intimacy: Across Digital and Visceral Performance Goldsmiths London UK, the
University of Lapland in Rovaniemi Finland, Low Lives 3 and Itinerant
Festival of International Performance Art, Queens NY. She was a Spring 2013
Artist-in-Residence at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass CO.
