Sonja Hildebrand, professor for the History of Modern Architecture at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture
Sonja Hildebrand is an art historian who had studied in Munich and Berlin. 1997 PhD and 2008 habilitation at the Technical University of Munich. 1997-2000 scientific collaborator at the Architectural Museum Munich. 2000-2001 scholarship at the University of Bamberg. 2001-2011 scientific collaborator. 2010 substitute professor at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture, ETH Zurich. Curated exhibitions amongst others at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich and the Kunsthaus Zürich. Since 2011 professor for the History of modern architecture at the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture.
Her research focuses on history and theory of modern architecture (18th century until today), history of architectural history, artistic and scientific approaches in architecture and architectural history, Gottfried Semper: architectural theory and epistemology, Swiss modern architecture, building in Nazi Germany and on Egon Eiermann. Her publications include books on Swiss modern architecture, on Gottfried Semper and on Egon Eiermann, and numerous essay in internationally renown magazines and anthologies.
