Via a series of paintings, prints, assemblages and tattoos, multidisciplinary duo Expanded Eye will showcase the culmination of their AdhocPAD Vienna residency in a solo exhibition from 11th-27th February 2016.
?Beyond This Place? highlights the flight of refugees seeking sanctuary from war and oppression, in search of their right to a peaceful existence.
Drawing on stories from visits to refugee camps as well as personal relationships built during their time in Vienna, the pair use their distinct storytelling approach and unmistakable style to senstively communicate themes of displacement, perilous voyages, and the ultimate wish to return. Emotive pieces invite the viewer to empathise and identify, and to form a human connection to the works and the context.
Using reclaimed materials collected over the course of the last three months, Expanded Eye transform the gallery with their poetic visual language, converting discarded items into installations, murals and assemblages; carefully constructed compositions that mirror the fragmented lives these humans so desperately try to piece back together.
Tattoos will take place on a first come, first served basis on Saturday 13th February 2016 to raise further funds and awareness for important humanitarian organisations. This intimate and enduring process of marking of the skin aims to unite us in a time of growing separation, allowing the wearer to take an active part in the dialogue and establish a lifetime bond with their fellow human.
Thursday 11th February: Vernissage 18:00 - 22:00
Saturday 13th February: Live tattooing: 14:00 - 20:00
