“Coffee House Cairo” ist eine partizipative Installation, die ursprünglich von den Gemälden des Österreichers Ludwig Deutsch inspiriert wurde. Die Ästhetik dieses Cafés im öffentlichen Raum widerspricht jedoch dem Bild des Ostens, das der Westen sowie auch der genannte Maler gerne reproduzieren. Das “Coffee House Cairo” bietet während der Öffnungszeiten der Galerie 12-14 kostenlosen Kaffee, einen Raum für das Zusammenleben und Lesen, Gespräche, Vorlesungen und Workshops. Die Graffitibilder, die das “Coffee House Cairo” schmücken, sind Werke bedeutender ägyptischer Graffiti-Künstler.

Die Installation ist das Ergebnis einer Recherche der Graffiti der Frühlingsrevolution in Kairo, die Cueto im Rahmen des von Philomena + und dem Österreichischen Kulturforum in Kairo organisierten “Visual Artist Exchange Program Vienna-Cairo” gestartet hat.

“Coffee House Cairo” is a participatory installation, originally inspired by the paintings by the Austrian Ludwig Deutsch. However, the aesthetics of this café in public space contradict the image of the East, which the West and the painter like to reproduce. The “Coffee House Cairo” offers free coffee, a space for living. lectures, workshops and reading. The graffiti which decorate the “Coffee House Cairo” are works by important Egyptian graffiti artists.

The installation is the result of research into the graffiti scene of the Spring Revolution in Cairo, which Cueto started as part of the “Visual Artist Exchange Program Vienna-Cairo” organized by Philomena + and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Cairo.

Das Julius Meinl-Logo wird von Carlos Toledo auf seine ideologischen und ästhetischen Komponenten hin untersucht. Toledo wird den Prozess hinter der inoffiziellen Neugestaltung des Logos und die emanzipatorischen Absichten von Mein Julius erläutern. / The Julius Meinl logo is examined by Carlos Toledo for its ideological and aesthetic components. Toledo will explain the process behind the unofficial redesign of the logo and the emancipatory intentions of Mein Julius.

Screening: Here to Stay! - Rassismus in Wien (Deutsch)
Die Dokumentation “Here to stay” sucht nach den rassistischen Hetzern und will die Wiener Bevölkerung beim kollektiven Wegschauen stören. Der Film des Regisseurs Markus Wailand zeigt die Kämpfe der schwarzen Bevölkerung gegen rassistische Klischees und ihr Engagement um positive Gegenentwürfe. / The documentary “Here to stay” searches for the racist agitators and wants to disrupt the Viennese population by looking away collectively. The film by director Markus Wailand shows the struggles of the black population against racist clichés and their commitment to positive counter-designs.

Simon Inou ist mehrfach national und international ausgezeichneter Wiener Journalist aus Kamerun. Zu seinen Schwerpunkten zählt die mediale Emanzipation und Selbstermätigung von Migrant*innen Communities im Medienbereich. / Simon Inou is a nationally and internationally awarded Viennese journalist from Cameroon. His focus is on media emancipation and self-empowerment of migrant communities in the media field.

Workshop: Über Susi sprechen wir nicht. Manuela Picallo Gil (Deutsch + Englisch)

Alle Bereiche unserer Gesellschaft sind von Geschlecht und damit eingehende Vorstellungen geprägt. Im Workshop Über Susi sprechen wir nicht werden Überlegungen angestellt, aus welchen Teilen sich Geschlechterkonstruktionen zusammensetzen. Beispiele aus dem Alltag sowie künstlerische Arbeiten, laden die Teilnehmenden ein, sich am Diskurs zu beteiligen. Der Workshop will neben Sensibilisierung, Vernetzung und Austausch fördern und ist offen für alle Interessierten. / All areas of our society are shaped by gender and thus by in-depth ideas. In the workshop We don´t talk about Susi we will consider which parts make up gender constructions. Examples from everyday life as well as artistic works invite the participants to take part in the discourse. In addition to raising awareness, the workshop aims to promote networking and exchange and is open to all interested parties.
