After the film screening, conversation between Andrea Ancira and Nina Hoechtl
DELIRIO GÜERO / WHITE DELUSION weaves together historical research, critical theory and archival images to tell stories that defy a final reading of history, highlighting instead the associative connections that cut across and weave together past, present and future.
In the form of a video-essay/performance/sham-history show/recreation of the future, the film is dedicated to tracing the consequences of the “white delusion” and how it has become intertwined with current and future power relations and processes of struggle. Throughout the film, Hoechtl takes us into the delusional, but factual, details of the extravagant acts of self-proclaimed 19th century discoverer/artist Jean-Friedrich Waldeck; architect/researcher/photographer Teobert Maler; the imperial colonial enterprises of monarchs Charlotte of Belgium and Maximilian of Habsburg in Mexico, along with his follower, the swindler Anton “Toni” Mayr.
Nina Hoechtl is a visual artist, researcher, curator and teacher. Conceiving and practicing research as a transdisciplinary endeavor she combines artistic, archival and analytical practices with the study of visual arts. https://www.ninahoechtl.org/ @skgal__
Andrea Ancira is an editor, writer, curator and independent researcher. Her practice is situated at the crossroads of art, politics and experimentation as a site of imagination, (un)learning and affective research. https://a-a-g.me @ohgrito
