V O I D
A sonic exploration of space
by Belma Bešli?-Gál and Bernhard Gál
Following Vortex (2009), V O I D is the second collaboration of the Slovenian-Bosnian composer Belma Bešli?-Gál and the Viennese composer / sound artist Bernhard Gál. This time, reduced acoustic spaces and their potential for a variety of compositional approaches are in the center of attention. Musical works have been developed for new environments, or adapted in relation to existing ones. Condensed listening architectures invite to explore specific experiential situations and their psychoacoustic implications. The scope of used sounds and instruments ranges from Tibetan cymbals, fog machines, space sounds, and voice recordings to more or less well known instrumental sounds and phonographies from everyday life. Three premieres open up various references to the term ‘void’ as a conceptual-metaphoric construct as well as a physical reality of the all-encompassing (outer) space.
