The independent and particularly utopian production of space, which has accompanied every significant social and cultural shift, has practically come to a standstill. Architects typically work in response to demands from the economy or politics, or for the sake of self-promotion. AKT is an association of architects with the goal of breaking through, undermining, and overcoming this one-dimensionality in a productive manner. As part of the Vienna Architecture Summer School, AKT will present selected projects from recent years. They all share the conviction that the creation of architecture is intertwined with a transformation, a shift in social relations that must be understood equally in theoretical, structural, and socio-spatial terms.
AKT is an architectural collective based in Vienna. Together with Hermann Czech, they are curating and designing this year’s Austrian Pavilion at the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice.
