Real Flow is an artwork that is a financial instrument. Looking beyond the now irrelevant account of artwork as commodity or noncommodity, Real Flow constructs a method of working with the current and impending transformations to the art market and structures of finance.
Real Flow utilizes the artmarket and commercialization of art as a medium for art itself, establishing new sources of revenue generation for producers and freeing up the artmarket from its current illiquid limitations.
Real Flow was presented at K. New York City in March 2015.
Suhail Malik is Co-Director of the MFA Fine Art, Goldsmiths, London, where he holds a Readership in Critical Studies, and formerly 2012-15 Visiting Faculty at CCS Bard, New York.
